Appears to be a standard downside, however up to now, I have never discovered an answer.
I’ve a mid-2012 MacBook Professional 15″ operating OSMojave 10.14.6. The battery I am at present utilizing has seen days, however all sysinfo and coconut battery each point out that it’s in “good” or “regular” situation at 81% well being. At the moment clocking in at 1498 cycles, however no issues till final week. Now the inexperienced magsafe gentle won’t flip to orange; there’s a lightning bolt battery image, nevertheless it says “not charging” and won’t cost. The laptop computer runs whereas plugged in with or with out the battery.
Issues I’ve tried:
• A number of shops, and a number of totally different charging blocks/ cords
• Cleaned and scrubbed the magsafe port.
• Opened up in restoration mode and run disk first assist.
• Reset the PRAM and NVRAM
• Tried SMC reset (shift-ctrl-opt-pwr for 10s), though I’ve no indication it did something.
• I’ve tried in addition up in ‘d’ diagnostic mode, however I simply get an error because it’s apparently not supported on my system :/
• I’ve unplugged and eliminated the battery, waited, after which fastidiously put all of it again collectively. I attempted “discharging” it, however nothing occurred.
All that has occurred in spite of everything that was that my system ran at 1/3 the velocity…. I have never but is reinstalled the OS or tried wiping it and recovering from a backup. I am just a little nervous about taking it in to an apple retailer and having them futz round doing the precise issues I’ve already finished earlier than bricking it or telling me to get a brand new battery/ logic board, and so forth. and so forth. or purchase a brand new laptop. Clearly the battery as historical, however I might reasonably not purchase a brand new one if it isn’t going to work anyway.
There was one time whereas my laptop computer and I have been mendacity on our sides scrolling via web sites to analysis the issue, that the charging standing out of the blue modified to “charging” and orange, and mentioned “10hrs”, however the cost by no means truly elevated and after I shut down the pc to go away it alone, it modified again to inexperienced :[ I have not been able to replicate this.
UPDATE:
UPDATE2: after leaving it plugged in for 24hrs, I disconnected the laptop to let it drain and re-charge it. As soon as I disconnected it, the computer shutdown, and when I tried to boot it, it chimed but the screen remained black. I typed in my password as if normal and eventually the loading screen came on. My new battery (cycle 1) now reads 7% and is not charging.
UPDATE3 (solution): I took it in to two repair specialists, including the Apple Store. Both suggested it was a DC-in board or logic board issue. Apple was unable to connect the computer to their network for diagnostic at all and suggested it was an I/O board issue. I ended up replacing the DC-in board (replacements are only ~$10) to no effect. Finally, I wiped my SSD, reinstalled the OS and restored to a backup. Now it is working. You guess is as good as mine.
